When I was recording “sounds of my day” for the other audio assignment, I realized that a lot of the sounds in my house were a little spooky if recorded in the right way. So when I saw the Spooky Sounds Audio Assignment, I knew this would be a perfect one to do. I think this is kind of funny that I’m doing this because, I do not like watching scary movies at all. Growing up that was not something my parents watched or would let us watch so, the scariest movies that I remember watching was like Sherlock Holmes movies like The Hound of the Baskervilles and it wasn’t till my cousins introduced me to The Blair Witch Project as a teenager that I realized what was under the genre of horror films. I never got through that whole movie and have no desire to finish it even now. So my “spooky sounds” might be more like they belong in the a 1930s or 1950s movie, but it was fun to make!
I used the same Audio App and Audacity to create this sounds recording and tutorial.
- I download the Sound Recorder Plus App from the Google Play store
- After opening the app, hit the red record button in the bottom center of the screen to start recording a new sound, you can record for a few seconds or for several minutes.
- To save your recording, select the save checkmark circle button
- A text box will appear with the highlighted words Recording 1 and your phone’s keyboard will pop up, start typing what the sound is (like Door Opening), and then click save
- If at any time during the sound recording you want to pause and resume again, hit the center pause button and then click resume
- If you don’t like your recording or someone talked, select the X circle button to discard your recording
- Import your records to your computer and save them under one folder
- To combine or edit your sounds together open up the program Audacity on your computer
- Open up the folder where you have the saved audio file
- To edit the first audio file, click down on the file and drag it to the dark gray area of the Audacity program
- Click on the play button in the top left menu area to play your recording
- To edit or delete different parts of your sound, drag your cursor across that area to highlight that sound in white and then select delete on your keyboard
- Edit and save each sound first before putting them together – to do this, select file, export, and then Export as MP3 and save it under a new folder. I saved them in the numerical order that I wanted them to play in my recording
- When you are finished up, click the X next to the title of your audio to close the one sound in your gray area of audacity, now you are ready to merge all your files together
- Click on File and then Import – for a helpful step by step check out: Merge MP3 video
- Find your audio files and highlight all of them, then click open
- This will open all your audio files in descending order in the gray center area
- Click on the Select menu and click All
- Now that all the tracks are selected, click on the Tracks menu and select Align Tracks and then Align End to End
- All the tracks will now play back to back
- To put all the audio on one track select the Tracks menu and click on Mix and then select Mix and Render
- Using the play button, play your audio and then edit it as needed
- To Export, click on File and the Export and select MP3 or WAV – to upload to Sound Cloud save as WAV
